Information is NOT Knowledge Part 2

The Economics of Information

As a general rule of thumb, the more plentiful a resource, the less valuable it will be. This isn't a "correlation doesn't equal causation" moment that arm chair YouTube philosophers think makes them witty. No. By FACT, the more information there is, the larger the portion of that information is going to be low quality, half true, or straight up incorrect.

How do we know this?

There are two reasons:

1. The barrier to entry is non-existent in 2020. Anybody with an internet connection can make the most pleasant looking website and propaganda tool in seconds, for very cheap or even free. I work with clients that are engineers in both software and manufacturing, and I'm always told how many sites and scam companies they have to filter through to avoid money laundering, etc. People on the civilian level do not realize how crazy the internet actually is outside of Amazon, Facebook, and YouTube.

2. Loaded Shaman's Social Axiom #1: People will demand a gimmick. What's a gimmick? "Shakes, wraps, and pills (and courses), oh my!".  People will do anything except use raw information and act on it. Because people love to avoid straightforward no bullshit answers to problems, and will instead concoct entire websites, forums, groups, and followings based entirely on ideas rooted in irrational philosophical assumptions, most importantly on the epistemological end.

The final part in this series will expand upon the above two points in uncomfortably-rational detail.

Stay rational, stay sane.
